I’d argue that Vienna isn’t particularly great at brunch. She’s mighty good at coffee houses, Beisln, wine taverns, and creative vegetarian-forward restaurants, but brunch is still a work in progress. That being said, Vienna does have some excellent brunch offerings, which I’ll share below.
It’s a short list, because I’m not including mediocre places simply to make the post longer. xoxo, Sabrina

Rosi

Housed in a minimalist corner café near Schloss Schönbrunn, this predominantly vegetarian restaurant offers a unique set menu on Saturdays and Sundays.
The “Rosi Brunch Club” menu consists of seven shared plates, five savory and two sweet. Far removed from the typical brunch fare you’d expect, this is one of the most distinctive and surprising breakfast experiences in Vienna. All the plates were delicious, although the coffee was too weak.
Don’t come here if you’re in a hurry. It’s a slow, drawn-out meal that drags on a little too long, but it’s perfect for a leisurely catch-up with friends.

Bistro Fantasy

Bistro Fantasy is a stylish spot in Vienna’s 6th district, set in a stripped-back, airy space where aesthetics clearly take precedence over comfort.
Breakfast is served from 9 am to 3:30 pm and features a range of sourdough-based dishes, topped with options like Cajun trout or shiitake mushrooms, alongside grilled sandwiches, eggs benedict, trout crudo, and granola.
We tried the eggs Benedict and the pastrami sandwich. Coffee can be ordered iced across the board, a small detail perhaps, but one that still feels relatively new in Vienna.
Service is efficient and perfectly adequate, though it lacks warmth.

Milchfrau
Occupying a former dairy shop, Milchfrau (“milkmaid”) is a down-to-earth neighborhood cocktail and natural wine bar in Vienna’s 8th district, which serves breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays between 10 am and 3 pm. The vibe is welcoming and cozy, a place that invites you in rather than ices you out.
I ordered the flavorful breakfast sourdough sandwich, stuffed with egg, bacon, pumpkin seed pesto, ricotta, onion chutney, dried tomatoes, and pointed white cabbage. It was soooo good, but definitely on the small side!!
Next visit, I’m going to order the lemon-ricotta pancakes as well.

Ährlich

This farm-to-table café in the 9th district serves a traditional, unfussy Austrian breakfast: bread topped with chives and eggs, bread with butter and jam, and platters of bread, cheese, and cold cuts. I particularly like the Sunny Side & Sumac, which departs ever so slightly from the traditional menu.
The café sources its ingredients from its two farms in the Innviertel region, as well as from a selection of small local producers.
